Who We Are
Strong Towns of Jefferson County is a “Local Conversation” initiative dedicated to creating a more resilient, people-centered community. We believe our towns and neighborhoods should grow in ways that support local businesses, protect historic character, and ensure that every resident—young or old—can thrive.
Our work is guided by the national Strong Towns movement, but shaped by the unique needs and opportunities here in Jefferson County. From Shepherdstown to Charles Town and every community in between, we’re bringing neighbors, civic leaders, and businesses together to strengthen the places we call home.
What We Do
Community Conversations – Hosting monthly meetups, potlucks, and workshops to discuss issues facing our neighborhoods and highlight local solutions.
Grassroots Action – From neighborhood cleanups to senior outreach initiatives, we believe in practical, boots-on-the-ground projects that make a difference right now.
Advocacy & Education – Partnering with local leaders and organizations to promote sustainable growth, strong local economies, and responsible development policies.
Support for Local Business – Showcasing and uplifting the small businesses and entrepreneurs that give Jefferson County its character and resilience.
Why It Matters
Jefferson County is growing, and with growth comes both opportunities and challenges. Too often, development decisions prioritize short-term gains over long-term strength. Strong Towns of Jefferson County works to flip that script—ensuring our choices today build prosperity for generations tomorrow.
By focusing on local wealth, walkable neighborhoods, balanced growth, and strong civic life, we’re helping Jefferson County become not just bigger, but stronger.
